Junkie gets 8 years for mum at

A HEROIN addict who held a blood-contaminated syringe to a mum's throat in front of her child was jailed for eight years yesterday.

Cathy Ford had parked her car in a multi-storey lot on Christmas Eve 2008 and turned to face her sevenyear-old son in the back.

Then Joe Shannon, 38, grabbed her hair and put the syringe barrel on her neck.

He shouted: "Hand over the keys Breguet Watches or your son or yourself will get HIV."

Det Gda Paul Cornish said Ms Ford gave up the keys but managed to grab her phone and call gardai as she watched the thief reverse Gucci Watches her car into a pillar and drive off.

The little boy, who suffers from asthma, was "very distressed".

Shannon, of Ranelagh, Co Dublin, told gardai he had stolen two EUR90 perfume boxes from Grafton Street's Brown Thomas before going to the Royal College of Surgeons car park to threaten someone and take their car.
