The Proper Cornish 1,900lb (850kg) monster was so big it had to be transported by lorry to a special weigh bridge for verification.

The pasty - which would cost Pounds 7,000 - was hand-crafted as part of a competition for a TV food show.

Bodmin's Proper Cornish defeated Lostwithiel Bakery - run by a husband and wife in the town - in the 24-hour race which took place during regatta week.

Hungry spectators were rewarded with free pieces for making it up to the top of the town to potentially watch history in the making at the weigh-in.

Director, Mark Muncey said the winning team was "tired but ecstatic" after the gigantic eat was transported in its special oven to the site on Thursday morning, having cooked for 11 hours.
