Why would we be surprised that our congressional candidates spend money so frivolously in Washington when evidence of their fiscal foolishness is on display on every highway and major intersection in the state?

When confronted with a problem (getting elected) and a pile of money (campaign funds), it seems the universal solution is to buy as many signs as possible and apply them to our roads with ridiculous density. This is a microcosm of thinking in Washington. Take a problem, throw a bunch of cash at it with the least effective and most unimaginative solution possible.
